RIR Editor Publishes "Annuities for Dummies"

Annuities for Dummies, a book designed to help consumers understand annuities and learn about their role in retirement income planning, has recently been published by the editor of Retirement Income Reporter, Kerry Pechter.

The 338-page paperback, part of the “Dummies” series of popular reference books from Wiley Publishing, Inc., defines annuities, explains how they work, and describes the different types of annuities in plain language.

Annuities for Dummies treats fixed annuities, index annuities, deferred variable annuities, income annuities, and longevity insurance as distinct products with distinct purposes and markets. It delves into the process of structuring annuities, investing in variable annuity subaccounts, accessing annuity assets, and managing taxes with annuities.

Moshe Milevsky, the well-known York University finance professor who writes and lectures widely about annuities, called Annuities for Dummies “very nice work. I'll definitely add it to my list of recommended readings
when people ask me about annuities.”

A review on Amazon.com called Annuities for Dummies “a very readable guide to annuities that makes sense of a very complicated insurance product… All in all, the book will help any reader make better choices regarding annuities.”

Pechter joined Annuity Market News, (now Retirement Income Reporter), a SourceMedia publication, as senior editor in August 2006, after several years in annuity marketing at The Vanguard Group. As a business writer, he has published articles in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Advertising Age, and other national publications.
